Master Biology: Application and Admission

Please inquire about the general information of the study program. The procedure is governed by the Admission Regulations Master Biology (PDF) regulated.
Applications are made centrally via the KIT applicant portal
A total of 50 Master's places are available.
Please follow the instructions of the application portal exactly and submit the documents with all required certificates.

Important: if you do not yet have a completed Bachelor's degree, you can take part in the procedure with the average grade achieved up to that point according to the university allocation regulations, but you must then enclose a certificate of the average grade achieved (preferably clearly marked) and the credit points earned up to that point. Incomplete documents (e.g. a missing average grade, in the case of a Bachelor's degree not yet completed) will lead to exclusion from the procedure.

The submission deadline is July 15 for the winter semester and January 15 for the summer semester

Please pay close attention to and follow the instructions in the application portal.

Upcoming dates for the selection and admission interviews:

For the WS 2024/25, the interviews are expected to take place on
22.07.2024 and 23.07.2024, registration will be activated in mid-June.

For SoSe 25, the interviews are expected to take place on 20.01.2025 and 21.01.2025.

The interviews will be conducted with two applicants and two examiners for 30 minutes each.

Please note: Applicants for the Master's Teacher Training Program do NOT have to take part in the selection interview.

Application from abroad

The application is made via the portal of the International Students Office Karlsruhe.

Prerequisite for the admission of foreign students is a certificate of the test "German as a foreign language" (TestDaF) level 4 or a comparable recognized certificate proving sufficient German language skills.
Foreign applicants who live in Germany take part in the regular selection interviews.
Applicants who live abroad are offered a questionnaire by e-mail. You will receive a form to complete by e-mail in the week after the application deadline. We ask applicants to be available by e-mail during this time.
The selection procedure can be replaced by a passed GRE exam (language skills min. 550 points, analytical writing 4.5 points, mathematical reasoning 700 points) or a GMAT exam (min. 680 points).

Exmatriculation and enrollment

You may submit credits from the Bachelor's degree program up to 6 weeks after the start of lectures. If you have not yet completed your Bachelor's degree at the start of your application, we recommend that you re-register for the next Bachelor's semester. If you then receive a Master's place and have completed your Bachelor's degree in time, you can "re-register", i.e. you only have to pay the semester fee once.
